The international growth of COVID-19 has likely shifted your regular routine all over the place.

When things feel uncertain you can take peace in knowing your residence is your safe retreat. You’re probably spending more time there today. Consequently your indoor air quality is now more crucial than ever.

Did you know we can install indoor air quality products in your house that provide hospital-grade filtration? These options can eliminate bacteria from your air, as well as allergens, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Modern residences are firmly closed, which is good for energy efficiency. But it also means your indoor air may be worse than the air outside. In fact, the EPA says it can be two to five times worse than outdoors. This could cause a problem since we spend about 90% of our lifetime inside.

There are many factors that can cause poor indoor air quality, like cleaning products and air fresheners. These can lead to headaches and exasperate allergies and asthma.

There are several things you can do to improve your air quality. Some include better air filters, an air purification system or an ultraviolet (UV) germicidal light.

Not certain which solution is right for your home? Our knowledgeable technicians can perform an indoor air quality audit. Based off of the results, we can then suggest the most fitting choice for your family’s distinct needs.

Air Filtration

When looking at air filters, it’s essential to look at the MERV rating, or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This gauges how effectively it filters contaminants.

One of the most average and lowest priced filters, flat fiberglass filters, are rated between 1 and 4 on the MERV system. Pleated filters are somewhat better, ranking between 8 and 12.

We suggest getting at least MERV 13, such as the HC13 Media Air Cleaner, for the optimal effect. This filter provides clearer air while lowering energy consumption.

High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are deemed the benchmark in air filtration, because they’re usually used in hospitals. They’re effective at trapping 99.97–99.99% of indoor pollutants, including pollen, pet dander and smoke.

Air Purification

Lennox offers some of the best air purification equipment you can purchase. PureAir™ S and Healthy Climate™ PureAir Air Purification Systems provide hospital-grade filtration while managing all categories of indoor air contaminants.

These powerful systems can take care of:

  • 99.9% of allergens, like pollen, dust and pet dander.
  • 95% of bacteria-sized particles, including ones that lead to strep throat.
  • 50% of VOCs and odors within 24 hours.

UV Germicidal Lights

A UV germicidal light is installed within your heating and cooling equipment. Its powerful rays wipe out bacteria and mold within seconds.

If your family struggles with allergies or asthma, this system can provide relief. Especially if you live in a muggy part of the country where bacteria and mold flourish.

This light also has an added perk for your comfort equipment. It may help it last for a greater period of time and run more efficiently, because it keeps the internal pieces clean.

Our air quality engineers advise using one of these lights with an improved filter, such as our Carbon Clean 16® Media Air Cleaner, for the greatest effect. This filter provides industry-leading MERV 16 filtration in addition to carbon-coated fibers to catch particles in your home’s air. It fulfills this without restricting your heating and cooling unit’s airflow.

Whole-Home Humidifiers

Acquiring balanced humidity in your home may help keep your family healthy when it’s cold. It can help with sore throats, dry skin and cracked lips, among other cold weather irritations.

If you don’t know what your residence’s humidity level is, we’ll measure it while we do your indoor air quality audit. While the range fluctuates based upon outdoor temperatures, HVAC experts usually recommend keeping it between 40–60 percent.

You can reach this ideal range by installing a whole-home humidifier. This system usually works with your furnace or air handler to provide the right level of humidity across your home. Some units, like the Healthy Climate® Whole-Home Power Humidifier, contain an included fan to spread humidity during the time your comfort system isn’t running.

*Based on in-duct testing that shows Healthy Climate® filters reduce airflow restriction. Greater restriction of airflow creates a greater load on a unit’s fan motor, increasing energy consumption.
